Android: Push Notifications and Alerts

Modified on Fri, 24 Sep 2021 at 11:50 AM

I have an active alert in the app but did not receive a push notification.

Not all alerts that appear in the Storm Shield App will produce a push notification.

Storm Shield App version 4 sends push notifications for the most critical severe weather alerts for Warnings and some Watches issued by the National Weather Service (NWS).

Less severe Watches and Advisories issued by NWS do not trigger a push notification in the Storm Shield App. However, they can appear inside the app when they are issued by NWS.

All active alerts for a location can be seen in Storm Shield's Active Alerts screen.  A user can access this screen by tapping on the red Alerts box located in the bottom left hand corner of the app. Alerts can also be seen on the map by turning on the Severe Weather Overlays based on your map preferences.

To see which weather alerts the Storm Shield App sends push notifications for, tap Settings (the gear icon in the upper-right), then Manage Weather Alerts.

Why do I see a Storm Shield push notification icon, but do not hear the audio?

In our continued testing of severe weather alert push notifications, we've confirmed that Storm Shield App's push notifications are working as expected.

When you receive a push notification from the Storm Shield App, you will hear an audio notification like this:

"Beep! Beep! Beep! The National Weather Service has issued a <Name of Alert>."

To verify your phone is set to hear audio for Storm Shield push notifications you will want to check the following settings in your phone:

1) Under your phone Settings > Notifications > Storm Shield App you will want to make sure you have notifications enabled:

*Please note that some Android devices may appear differently.

2) Push the volume button on the side of your phone and hit the drop down option in the top right hand corner to ensure your Notifications volume is set to the desired level.

*Please note that some Android devices may appear differently.

3) Check inside the app's Settings under "Manage Weather Alerts" to make sure you are subscribed to all available alerts you wish to receive a push notification for.  A blue checkmark indicates a subscribed alert.

* If you continue to experience issues with alerts or have questions, feel free to reach out to our support team by using the Support link inside the settings of the app.
